Escritora estadounidense, considerada la primera mujer periodista del país. Royall viajó por todo el país entre 1826 y 1831 y publicó 10 libros sobre sus viajes, que siguen siendo hasta el día de hoy valiosas fuentes de estudio sobre la historia social de su país. Fue una mujer excéntrica y cáustica y por su antagonismo contra una iglesia presbiteriana local, fue acusada en Washington, D.C., en 1829, de ser una "alborotadora pública. En 1831, comenzó a publicar sus francas y controvertidas ideas sobre diversos temas de interés social y político en su periódico Paul Pry (1831–36), con sede en Washington, que fue reemplazado más tarde por The Huntress (1836–54).
